Lackadaisical in Los Angeles

My friend Jeff, the writer for Thrillist Los Angeles got a call from the publicist for the restaurant Club Sushi that recently opened in Hollywood (after massive delays) and invited him to come dine there for free with a +1. Jeff couldn’t convince anyone else to join him, had heard that I was planning on eating a hard boiled egg for dinner that night, and invited me to come.
Here was my checklist of expectations going in:
- Big space with lots of TVs. (check)
- The staff outnumber the patrons. (check)
- Good, expensive sake. (check)
- Passable but overpriced sushi. (check)
- There will be a lot of things on the menu I’d never order— such as burgers, pizza and pasta. (check)
- Lots of goofy, over-the-top rolls. (check)
- Jeff and I will eat way too much food because it’s free. (check)
- I’ll arrive extremely hungry, but as I get full, the food will begin tasting significantly worse. (check)
- Standing up at the end of the meal will prove painful. (check)
- I’ll be slightly depressed when driving home. (check)
We had one bottle of sake and two beers.
Final bill: $260
